Getting Elevate working on my Debian box

I’m really interested in putting together the Elevate desktop replacement.

The target computer is a Debian box running 3.1r4, and I’ve had to do some things not mentioned on the website to get it working.

Here goes:

# apt-get install sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev libjpeg62-dev libfreetype6-dev curl libcurl3-dev

…and due to an unexpected difference between baseline OS versions, I can’t get the system to work on Debian stable… So, I’ll probably be whacking this installation and putting Gentoo on it instead. I’m more familiar with Gentoo’s administration and layout - I should be more comfortable getting Elevate to work using this OS. Migrating to Gentoo also presents the possibility that the software will mature a bit, being forced to inhabit a completely new version of the GNU/Linux software.

I can hear some of you out there now: “Why, Great Coder, can’t you get it running on Debian sid?” “Why move to another distribution of Linux when you’ve got plenty of code challenges to face getting it to work on Debian stable?”

My response is complicated and nuanced: I’m lazy.

Where did I put that Gentoo install disk?
